Duplex mechanical tubing has a roughly balanced ferrite–austenite microstructure, achieved through controlled chemistry and thermomechanical processing. Typical chemistry includes ~20–25% chromium, 3–6% nickel, 2–4% molybdenum (grade dependent), and nitrogen to boost strength. The result: high yield and tensile strengths (often 2× common austenitics), superior resistance to stress‑corrosion cracking, excellent pitting and crevice corrosion resistance, and good fatigue performance. Duplex also offers practical weldability when best practices are followed. In short, you get a lighter, stronger tube that resists corrosion and holds tight tolerances under repeated load.
